DFA, DOLE to establish OFW command center

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) are working together to establish a command center mainly to cater the needs of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) from all over the world.

These reforms include the use of legal assistance fund to hire lawyers for OFWs who were sent to jail by their employers, reported GMA News.

They have also directed Philippine embassies to keep track and update the names of OFWs to immediately respond to their distress calls and emergencies.

According to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, he will be having a forum with the ambassadors of Europe and the Middle East to discuss about these reforms, and to tackle what else they can do to better serve the OFWs.

Cayetano also stressed that they are already cooperating with various government agencies to provide more employment opportunities in the Philippines, that will hopefully lessen the number of Filipinos that leave the country.
