Asian nabbed in Karama over drug charges

A 40-year-old overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is facing charges over a “tiny quantity of drugs” found in the balcony of his flat in Karama after Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics officers conducted a search operation in October last year.

According to a report by a Bazzam Za’za of Gulf News, 0.49 grams of methamphetamine was found in his flat after a tip-off received by the authorities.

The Filipino was said to have claimed that another Filipino-convict called him from the Dubai Center Jail to tell him where to get the substances.

He told the authorities that the convict used to ask him to keep the substance until someone buys it from him.

After the transaction, he would transfer the money to the account of the convict and get a commission.

In the Court of First Instance on Thursday, January 11, 2018, the prosecutors heard from the suspect that he was consuming the substance for his personal use and denied using it for promotional purposes.

The next ruling will be on January 18.
