UAE VAT: Things to check before paying your bill

The five percent value-added tax (VAT) in the UAE had already been implemented on the first day of 2018. This tax reform garnered a mixed bag of reactions from residents and expats alike across the country.

In line with the new tax system, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) advised consumers not to pay their bills if these following elements are not present on their tax invoice.

First, a tax invoice should have the name and address of the establishment. It is important to know the primary details where you purchased your items or goods.

Second, consumers should also take note of the invoice sequential number and date of issue. A sequential number is a group of unique numbers that can identify the tax invoice details.

It is also important to know how much VAT is added to your tab, and how much is your total bill.

If all these elements are missing on your invoice, the FTA advised not to pay your bill.
