155 cars under ‘house arrest’ in Sharjah

More than 150 cars that incurred various traffic offences in Sharjah were installed by Sharjah Police with GPS trackers to prohibit owners from further driving them on roads.

The move was to keep the cars parked in their respective owners’ garage or parking area, reported Khaleej Times.

The Sharjah Police have confiscated 155 cars that made traffic violations since the beginning of November.

Major Abdul Rahman Khater, director of media and awareness department, was quoted as saying in the report that the owners of the confiscated cars will have to pay only the fines imposed due to violation.

However, the violator will not be charged for the GPS tracker device installed in the car.

The police have only granted a 50-meter distance if owners will have to move the vehicle. If a car moves beyond this, the report said, it would send an alert signal to the police and the confiscation period would be doubled.

The police will also remove the licence plate from the car and circulate the registration number across the UAE.
