OFW jailed in Saudi Arabia for theft released after a month

The Overseas Filipino Worker detained for over a month in Jeddah after being accused of stealing her employer’s belongings has been freed due to lack of evidence.

Last August, Saudi authorities arrested Estrelita Caligagan and another Filipina a day before she was finally headed back to the Philippines, GMA News reported.

The Philippine Consulate assisted her with her case and arranged for her release as the employer failed to present sufficient proof.

The employer, who claimed Caligagan stole her cash and jewelry, apologized to the latter during her release.

Against the advice of the Philippine Vice Consul in Saudi, who urged her to file a counter-charge, Caligagan insisted that she will not be filing charges against her previous employer and that she simply wants to go home.
