Last Thursday, Oct 19, an eight-year-old Asian fell asleep on the school bus, failed to get off when the other students did, and allegedly woke up to find the bus driver trying to sexually assault her.
After asking him to leave her alone, the bus driver left her locked inside the bus, where a passerby saw the child looking panicked and called the cops, Khaleej Times reported.
“Police patrols were dispatched to the scene and officers found that the Asian man [that raised the alarm] had broken the bus window,” Gulf News quoted Lt Col Ali Jaber Al Shamsi, Director of the Police Control Center.
The driver, who parked the bus in front of his house in Liwara area, denied the allegations, saying he was unaware that the student was still on the bus.
Medical examination found that the child was not raped, however, she was still taken to a psychiatrist for treatment for the trauma she might have undergone, Khaleej Times quoted Al Shamsi.
The driver has been arrested, but investigation is still underway, reports said.
