Duterte calls for unity among allies vs. North Korea

President Rodrigo Duterte appealed on Tuesday Oct. 10 to Philippines government allies to unite against North Korea supreme leader Kim Jong-un, in a show of power.

“We reiterate our full support with our Australian friends, Americans, and even Chinese, Malaysian, all, to show to this one guy that he has to stop threatening the world,” the president told the media.

“[H]e runs the risk of being destroyed first,” Duterte added.

North Korea has launched several missile tests this year, having fired a few missiles over Japan on August and September.

According to the US National Air and Space Intelligence Center, an intercontinental ballistic missile can reach a target location of more than 5,500 km away, which is roughly the distance between the Philippines and Pakistan.

Duterte said these weapons “would destroy Southeast Asia immediately, and the Philippines is no exception”.
