Woman falls to death in Megamall

A young woman fell to her death October 4 in SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City, police said.

Mandaluyong Police Chief Senior Supt. Joaquin Alva said the woman, around 20 to 25 years old, jumped from the fifth floor of the mall and landed on the basement floor near an escalator at around 3:15 p.m.

“She was rushed immediately to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival at 3:31 p.m. by attending physician Dr. Elmerie Pineda of Pasig Medical City,” Eastern Police District Director Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula said.

According to a Journal Online report, witnesses last saw her crying in front of a wedding jewelry store before the incident happened.

Police said she was wearing a black shirt and jeans but didn’t possess any other document to further identify her.

There were two similar incidents last year which also involved a person jumping from the fifth floor of the said mall.

SM Supermalls has released a statement on its social media accounts, saying that investigation is still ongoing.
