Filipino who opened fire at cops shot dead in Malaysia

A Filipino was shot dead in Pulau Burung, Malaysia on September 29, after he allegedly exchanged fire with policemen conducting sea-based security operations.

The Sun Daily reported that the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Tarab, was killed by policemen in an ensuing shootout.

Policemen said they saw Tarab in a blue pump boat in the waters of Pulau Burung.

When they identified themselves to him, the suspect allegedly opened fire at them.

Tarab was wanted for criminal activities, including robbing fishermen, and being involved in kidnap-for-ransom activities, according to Deputy Inspector-General Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

Policemen found a revolver, a Samurai sword, three rounds of ammunition, and a bullet shell in his boat.

Noor Rashid said Tarab was previously arrested but was released for lack of evidence for his prosecution.
