Filipino school in Dubai awarded with UNESCO membership

The first Filipino school in Dubai has been accredited as a member of the United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO).

The United International Private School (UIPS), a private school catering to the Filipino community since 1992, was given its certificate of accreditation as a member of UNESCO on September 1 in Quezon City, Philippines.

Philippine National Commission for UNESCO secretary general Lila Ramos Shahani gave the membership certificate to UIPS school psychologist Dr. Maria Jolit Malaya.

UIPS-Human Resources & Relations manager Jennifer Gonzales said the membership accreditation of the Filipino school could help the students to be more involved globally.

“Diaspora is the whole gamut of giving. But, in giving there are factors that we have to look into such as government and non-government institutions as well as other international organisations. In giving, it means connecting with the communities and the society for the betterment of the beneficiaries,” Gulf Today quoted Gonzales.

UIPS the first Philippine school based abroad to have a membership status at UNESCO after they were recommended by the National Association of Unesco Clubs.
