Sheikh Mohammed approves 10 new humanitarian initiatives

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved 10 new initiatives and work policies to further fulfill the role of UAE in philanthropism in private and public sector institutions.

“This final stretch is the most important. Our goal is to expand further on our humanitarian policies, ensuring that we multiply our efforts to deliver even more goodness to all parts of the world,” Emirates News Agency has quoted HH Mohammed Al Maktoum in his reminder to all stakeholders concerned in the Year of Giving.

The 10 initiatives approved on September 20 are mostly focused on volunteerism, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and enhancing the role of humanitarian organizations and the development sector.

The 10 initiatives are:

  1. CSR smart platform – a comprehensive electronic platform that would provide public companies with private sector opportunities in participating in various community projects.
  2. Specialised volunteering programme – a program providing different incentives for skill-based volunteers.
  3. Involving government employees in volunteering programme – a program that includes setting up a new federal mechanism in encouraging federal and local government employees to volunteer.
  4. Opportunities in government programme – a program that will give a list of volunteer opportunities for all segments of society.
  5. Smart platform for developmental and charity work – an online platform with all information on humanitarian, charitable, and developmental institutions in the country. The goal is to also achieve integration between them.
  6. Giving card –  an initiative project launched in partnership with charities and banks to encourage people to donate in charities.
  7. Twinning between international and local development institutions – a program aiming to share knowledge between the world’s leading humanitarian organizations.
  8. Professional diploma for humanitarian and development work – the program aims to develop altruistic national cadres with expertise and skills in the humanitarian field.
  9. National giving survey – the program aims to evaluate and study the attitudes and actions of UAE’s philanthropism.
  10. Five legislations – this program guarantees the institutionalisation of giving and humanitarian work in the country, covering CSR, volunteerism, community service and the establishment of a Coordinating Council for Charitable and Humanitarian Institutions
