Filipina DH burned with boiling oil by employer

Beaten and burned, a Filipina domestic worker and her family is seeking justice against her abusive employers in Malaysia.

Joramie Garcia Torres left her teaching job in the Philippines to become an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Malaysia last year, GMA News reported.

But after her first employer allegedly attempted to rape her, Joramie was referred by the recruitment agency to another employer, a finance manager of an oil refinery business.

She was reportedly repeatedly beaten, as well as scalded by hot oil and hit with a scorching hot pan by her new employers.

According to her brother, Raccie Torres, they were not in contact with Joramie since February.

It wasn’t until a Filipino couple in Malaysia contacted the family did they found out their loved one suffered from abuse at the hands of her employers.

Joramie was found covered in bruises and burns in an abandoned lot after escaping from her employers.

“Yung kanang mata niya, medyo nanlalabo na. Yung kaliwang parte ng labi niya, dikit dahil sa paso ng kawali. Yung kaliwang pisngi niya, tuyo dahil sa paso ng mantika,” her brother said.

In a Facebook post, OFW rights advocate Susan Ople said they are bringing Joramie’s parents to Malaysia, in partnership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Alpha Tomo Agency.

Joramie is now in the custody of the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia.

Her employers have been arrested but were released on bail.
