An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was found dead in her residence in Busaiteen, Bahrain after she was stabbed multiple times by a Bahraini national on Friday, August 31.
Police officials arrested the 28-year-old suspect a day after the incident happened. He eventually confessed to the crime during interrogation.
The victim was identified as Zairah Cañete, 38, a private nurse working in Manama.
The suspect, who was not named by officials, stabbed Cañete in the neck and the eyes after an argument ensued between them at her home due to jealousy, News of Bahrain reported.
“The special teams of the prosecution inspected the crime scene, examined the body and reported wounds to the woman’s neck and eye. The weapon used in the crime was confiscated from the crime scene,” Muharraq Governorate Deputy Chief Prosecutor Abdullah Al Dossary was quoted as saying.
Scratch marks on the suspect’s right hand suggest that the victim struggled with her boyfriend.
The suspect will remain in police custody until the case is referred to a criminal court.
