A 16.11 ft. crocodile surprised the residents of Poblacion Talampakan in Sumunul, Tawi-Tawi on September 8.
A fisherman saw the huge crocodile swimming around the sea near their homes on September 7, according to Ruben Balcorza of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Simunul.
The fisherman said he had mistaken it for a log and he was surprised when it moved.
The residents gathered together to catch the crocodile using their nets to prevent it from killing one of the residents.
The crocodile reportedly wrecked a boat and damaged fish nets during the rescue operations.
Balcorza said the 16.11 ft. crocodile is currently under the care of the Simunul government.
The crocodile caught in Tawi-Tawi is few foot smaller from Lolong, the world’s largest crocodile in captivity ever recorded.
Lolong is a saltwater crocodile measured 20 ft. 3 in. and was caught at a creek in Agusan Del Sur on September 3 2011. He died on February 10, 2013.
