Palawan Underground River: 30th on CNN’s 50 Natural Wonders

Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo welcomed on Thursday the newest international recognition of Puerto Princesa Subterranean River from CNN Travel’s 50 Natural Wonders: The Ultimate List of Splenic Splendor.

Palawan’s wonder made it to the 30th spot among 50 sites around the world.

Aside from CNN’s 50 Natural Wonders, the subterranean river has already been listed among United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage sites.

Last July, Travel+Leisure magazine cited Palawan as World’s Best Island for two consecutive years because of its spectacular scenery such as Coron and El Nido resorts.

Norway’s Pulpit Rock topped the list while seven more natural wonders from Asia were included namely: Pangong Tso Lake in India-China (no. 9), Jiuzhaigou in Sichuan province, China (14), Jeju Island Lava Tubes in South Korea (23), Mount Bromo, Indonesia (37), Halong Bay in Vietnam (43), Trango Towers, Pakistan (46) and the Shilin Stone Forest in Yunnan, China (48).
