The emirate of Dubai, inarguably one of the most technologically advanced community in the world, has never ran out of things to offer in terms of providing convenience to its people.

Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has partnered with Mercury M touch to turn Dubai residents’ Nol cards into a multi-purpose cards.

The partnership allows Dubai residents to pay for their snacks or buy goods from over 1,000 retail stores using Nol card, a smart card that was originally meant to pay for various RTA transport modes.

Abdulla Al Madami, chief executive officer at RTA’s Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, said the agency aims to connect Nol payment system with 5,000 retail stores by the end of 2017.

“RTA has always sought the best methods to make people in Dubai happy by providing them with safer, sophisticated, secure and faster solutions that enhance and make their lives happy, easier and comfortable,” Al Madami said in a statement.

The “handy payment method” can be used for transactions with petrol stations as well as to buy food from Zoom, Burger King, Gloria Jean’s Coffees, and Circle K.

The conversion of RTA’s transport card into a multipurpose card falls under Smart Dubai initiatives, which aim to cement Dubai’s position as the happiest and most technologically-advanced city.
