OFW to represent PH in international pageant

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Singapore is out to prove that Filipina beauty is world class.

Darlene May Reyes, a marketing executive in Singapore, was recently crowned Miss Philippines Tourism Queen International and is set to don the country’s colors in the international leg of the pageant in China on September 16.

“First I was surprised because I was crowned as Miss Philippines. I’ve gone through lot of trials in several pageants, but on my third try nanalo naman ako as Miss Philippines,” Reyes said in an interview with ABS-CBN.

Prior to joining Miss Philippines Tourism Queen International, she competed in Mutya ng PIlipinas 2017, where she bagged the Best in Talent award, and Miss Philippines-Earth.

Darlene also urged aspiring beauty queens to continue striving even after failures.

“Be true to yourself and carry on with what you want because your goal in life defines what you want to be,” she added.

Reyes’ coronation coincided with the launch of Miss Philippines 2017 pageant, which aims to promote the country’s cultural heritage, Filipino values, diversity and remarkable destinations.

In particular, Reyes said her advocacy focuses on the preservation of country’s water resources.

The 24-year-old beauty queen is set to fly to China on September 2.
