Philippine Embassy observes Eid Al Adha Holidays

The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi wishes to inform the Filipino community in the UAE and the general public that its office will be closed from Thursday, August 31 to Sunday, September 3 in observance of Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha.

The public service announcement was made by Vice Consul Rowena Daquipil, Charge d’Affairs at the Philippine Embassy, in respect to the Islamic traditions, that are also observed by Muslim Filipinos, as well as government regulations of UAE.

Regular consular services will resume on Monday, September 4, added Daquipil in her statement.

The UAE government has earlier announced Eid Al Adha Holidays for the public sector, a day after the Zul Hijjah moon was sighted. Eid Holidays for the public sector is from August 31 to September 3.

Eid Al Adha Holidays for the private sector have not yet been announced.

Also called the “Sacrifice Feast”, Eid Al Adha is the second of the two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year. The Muslims consider it holier than Eid Al Fitr, the first one.

Arafat Day (Thursday, August 31), on the other hand, is an Islamic holiday that falls on the ninth day of Dhu Al Hijjah of the lunar Islamic Calendar. It is the second of the Hajj pilgrimage and the day after the first day of Eid Al Adha.
