Pakistani killer of OFW in UAE sentenced to 27 years in jail

The Pakistani suspect who stabbed a female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) 66 times last year in United Arab Emirates was sentenced to 27 years in prison by the Dubai Criminal Court.

The court has sentenced the 24-year-old Pakistani watchman (name withheld) with 25 years of imprisonment and deportation for stabbing Maria Lenlie Oliverio 66 times. He was also sentenced to two years in imprisonment for robbery charges after he looted the victim’s money.

The Gulf Today reported that the Pakistani admitted in the hearing that he stabbed Oliverio over a previous argument in an apartment at International City on February 18 last year.

“Yes, I stabbed her but I did not intend to kill her. We had a heated argument and we fought … I did cause her death but I had not planned to do so in advance. I stole her money and then I returned it,” the report quoted him as saying.

The Pakistani barged into Oliverio’s unit with a knife, a screwdriver, and a glove. He also admitted that he punched her, kicked her in the face, smashed her with an aquarium, and smothered her with his hands until she died.

The body of the 25-year-old Negros Occidental native was found by her Indian boyfriend, who was initially considered as the primary suspect.
