2 OFWs saved from illegal detention

The Criminal Investigation Department of Abu Dhabi Police has rescued two Filipinas and an Indian national from illegal detention.

Anna Guerra, Third Secretary and Vice-Consul at the Philippine Embassy, said the Filipinas, along with the Indian national, appeared before the public prosecutor’s office on August 10 to give their statements.

“We are grateful to the Criminal Investigation Department officials of Abu Dhabi Police, who acted promptly to rescue the women,” Gulf News quoted Guerra as saying.

She added the Filipina came to work as domestic workers in the UAE with a tourist visa.

A report from Thoughtskoto said the women were allegedly not allowed to leave their employers’ house.

The report said both the Philippine and Indian embassies are coordinating with UAE authorities to send the illegally detained women as soon as possible.

The two Filipinas are from Mindoro and Quezon provinces in Luzon.
