Customs official resigns amid P6.4 billion “shabu” shipment that passed through BOC

Milo Mastrecampo, chief of the BOC Internal Affairs Division (IAS), submitted his resignation to Malacanang on Tuesday after Customs broker Mark Taguba implicated him as among the officials who received weekly “grease money” in exchange for speedy facilitation of his shipments.

Using a dummy, Taguba said he brokered the P6.4 billion shipment of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) that passed through the green lane or without inspection.

Meanwhile, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has continued its hearing regarding the shipment brought to the Philippines.

Richard Tan, a Chinese national who owns the HongFei Logistics warehouse where the shipment was brought, said in today’s hearing (August 9) that he has no prior knowledge that the shipment contains shabu when it arrived.

Tan and Manny Lim, however, was cited for contempt due to change in their previous testimonies.

Senator Panfilo Lacson suggested Tan and Lim that telling the names of the people behind the shipment can make them qualify as state witnesses.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Isidro Lapeña, said that the confiscated illegal drugs can no longer be used as evidence because of contamination.

BOC Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon is still no show in today’s senate hearing.
