RAK impounds 71 unattended vehicles

Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has warned against residents and expats alike about leaving their vehicles unattended on public roads which may pose risks to public safety.

Recently, local reports said, the Municipality impounded 71 abandoned cars this year after the owners failed to respond to warning letters sticked by the authorities on the windshield of their vehicles within 48 hours.

Of this number, eleven vehicles which were turned into food trucks were impounded in June (2017).

“The public is urged not to show any cooperation with street vendors, who mostly come from nearby emirates, since they were not licensed. They fail to meet the prescribed health conditions and pose a grave risk to peoples’ health,” Khaleej Times quoted Shaimaa Al Tunaiji, Acting Manager of the Public Health Department, as saying.

She added that many owners had also carelessly left their wheels unattended in prohibited areas. Some of these vehicles have became hideouts for illegal residents and those practicing illegal activities.

The public health officer said that the crackdown was implemented to deter offenders, and ensure public safety.
