Unlicensed Asian dentist, assistant face trial in UAE

The Dubai public prosecution warned residents and expats of illegal and unlicensed low-cost medical services in the UAE after two Asian men were charged with practicing medicine without a license and illegal possession of medical equipment.

The prosecution has referred the men to the Court of Misdemeanors, recommending the strictest penalties be imposed on them, Khaleej Times quoted Bur Dubai prosecutor Mitra Ibrahim Madani as saying.

Their dental clinic charged less than Dh50 per appointment and operated without acquiring the proper permit required in the emirate.

“With a prosecution warrant, the police officers raided the apartment run as a clinic and arrested the dentist as he was treating a client of the same nationality. His assistant was also held. All medical equipment and medicine found in the apartment were seized,” prosecutor Madani added.

Both defendants admitted to the charges during investigation and the dentist confessed to travelling every two months to bring in the necessary tools and medicine from his home country.

The assistant was charged with aiding and abetting the dentist despite knowing he was an unauthorized doctor.
