Duterte admin eyes P77-B infrastructure project in Visayas

The proposal to connect the islands of Panay, Negros and Guimaras could has inched closer to implementation government is pushing to start major infrastructure projects in the Western Visayas under the Duterte administration.

The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) said the government is looking to complete the engineering study of  P27.15 billion (Dh1.97 billion)-bridge project within the year to finalize the cost and funding.

“This will definitely push through,” the Inquirer quoted NEDA Western Visayas Director Ro-ann Bacal as saying.

Bacal said China and Japan have expressed interest in funding the project, which could streamline transport of people in goods in the three islands.

The bridge project, which have been proposed since Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapacal-Arroyo’s stint as president, is one of the projects under the eyed P77 billion (Dh5.60 billion) infrastructure program in the Western Visayas.

The others include the P30.4-billion (Dh2.21 billion) improvement of the Iloilo International Airport and the P19.3-billion (Dh1.40 billion) Panay River Basin Integrated Development Project.
