Dubai offers free shuttle service amid partial Metro closure

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that commuters affected by the partial closure of Dubai Metro Red Line between the stations of Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) and Ibn Battuta can hop on free shuttle buses from July 28 to October 15.

The free bus ride will be available on weekends (Fridays and Saturdays) during the 10-week period of the partial metro closure, the RTA’s Public Transport Agency announced on Monday.

“The closure is required to proceed with construction works related to the Route 2020 Project,” Khaleej Times quoted Mohammed Abu Baker Al Hashmi, director of planning and business development, RTA’s Public Transport Agency, as saying.

Metro commuters traveling to the UAE Exchange Station should get off at JLT station, board the free bus, and be dropped off at Ibn Battuta Station to resume their metro ride, Al Hashmi explained.

If traveling to Al Rashidiya Station, metro commuters must get off at Ibn Battuta Station, hop on the free bus, and be dropped off at JLT station to continue their ride on the metro.

“This service is offered to meet the needs of public transport riders in general and metro commuters in particular between the said two stations. RTA is always keen to fulfill the needs of public transport users in Dubai, and offer integrated excellent services to customers with the aim of making them happier,” Al Hashmi added.
