Dust storm sweeps across UAE

A strong dust storm hit the northern emirates Thursday morning, July 13, 2017, reducing visibility for commuters in affected areas of the UAE.

The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said that the dust storm affected the areas at 5:30 a.m and reportedly continued around 10:00 a.m.

The NCMS warned residents that strong winds and dust storms will continue until Saturday night. Despite temperatures reaching 49 degrees Celsius in internal areas and 47 degrees Celsius in coastal areas, the NCMS said there is a high percentage of rain on Thursday afternoon until the weekend for the southern and eastern regions.

Commuters and drivers are asked to be cautious as dust storms reduces visibility. If there is no business to attend to outside, the best option is to stay indoors. If residents must leave the house, wearing a mask can reduce exposure to dust particles.
