2 Filipinos, 25 foreign workers in Dubai left unpaid for several months

A Jordanian national fled the UAE, leaving behind 27 uncompensated employees scrambling to contact him to get their salaries for six months or their end of service benefits.

The businessman owned a coffee and hospitality solutions company with two franchises in Dubai.

According to Khaleej Times report, among the victims were Filipinos who have not been paid for five months.

One of them, a Filipino waiter, is the breadwinner in his family. “I have siblings that I take care of. I have to pay for their school tuition fees. I’m the breadwinner in the family. So I need the money… as soon as possible,” the report quoted him as saying.

Meanwhile, Anne, another Filipino worker, was also left hanging despite having worked for the company for five years.

She shared, “My daughter has stopped going to school because I don’t have the money to pay for her tuition. I don’t have anyone else who can take care of me or my family. I’m a single mother and my parents are retired. They are in the Philippines and they have no one except me.”

Alongside other workers, the two have already submitted complaints to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, but their boss has yet to surface.

The employees continue to face problems as their employment visa is still tied with the Jordanian.

“I need the money that is owed to me and I need to find another job right away. First, my visa needs to be canceled so I can take another employment, but the owner needs to be here for that. But we can’t get a hold of him,” Anne said.
