A cook in Dubai has been sentenced to six months in prison for biting off a chunk of his former fiancee’s ear.
The Sri Lankan man stalked the woman on the street, snatched her purse, bit off part of her ear, and fled.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted him for snatching the purse and for assaulting the woman.
According to the ruling, the defendant will be deported after he serves his time in jail.
The biting incident caused the woman to have a 5 per cent permanent disability.
The woman broke off their engagement three years prior to the incident.
“Since then he has been stalking me. He always snatched my purse, took the money and returned the purse the next day. On the day when the incident happened in Al Satwa, I was walking to work when he came from behind me. He punched me first, pulled away my purse, bit my ear and ran away,” the victim testified in court as quoted by Gulf News.
A hearing will be scheduled before the Appeal Court after the defendant appealed the initial ruling.
