A replica of a gorilla on display at a Dubai resort went missing Thursday morning but it was returned by two suspected pranksters who took it after a social media campaign to find the ape.
In a CCTV video posted on the website of Dubai Eye 103.8, two people in gorilla masks drove by the entrance of the Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina and dropped the gorilla statue dubbed Gorgeous George before speeding away.
The management at the hotel called the incident a “friendly case of kidnapping” and no charges will be filed.
Gorgeous George was on display at the front of the ‘Lost World’ tropical jungle replica inside Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina’s Barasti venue. It was part of a managerie of life-size animal replicas. Staff discovered the gorilla missing while closing the bar in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The staff launched a social media campaign, with the hashtag #BringGeorgeHome.
