2,000 volunteers log 20,000 hours Ramadan service

More than 2,000 volunteers of Emirates Foundation worked for more than 20,000 hours during Ramadan, according to the independent philanthropic organization set up by the Abu Dhabi government to improve the welfare of youth across the UAE.

The foundation’s community service called Takatof program attracted 1,700 more volunteers and the number of workhours they put in exceeded the target by 5,000 hours.

“We were overwhelmed with the response of our youth, exceeding our targets both in numbers of volunteers and volunteering hours. They fully embraced their service mission and truly ‘made it count’ with an open heart and the highest levels of commitment towards promoting the values, beliefs and, most importantly, the culture of volunteerism across the UAE,” said Maytha Al Habsi, Deputy CEO at Emirates Foundation, according to WAM.

Among the services the foundation provided was gathering food and clothes from various government entities and distributing them to lower income families.

The Takatof ‘Giving Van’ drove across the country throughout Ramadan collecting and distributing the donations.

The volunteers also renovated the houses of needy families.
