LRT2’s Masinag and Emerald stations coming in 2018

by

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) broke ground for the construction of two additional stations of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) Tuesday, May 30, adding that “life must go on” even after the Marawi clash.

The two stations are the Emerald Station in front of Robinsons Metro East and Sta Lucia and the Masinag Station in Antipolo City set to be finished in August 2018.

“Even if there is friction in Marawi City, life must go on. This should not deter us from pushing for our economy to grow and prosper,” Rappler quoted Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade as saying during the groundbreaking ceremony in Antipolo City.

These additional stations will accommodate 80,000 more passengers everyday for its first five years of operation.

The current average of ridership for the LRT2 is 240,000.

Average travel time through bus from Recto in Manila to Masinag is 3 hours. This will be reduced into 40 minutes with the new station.

Tugade emphasized the government is taking infrastructure projects seriously, even as the administration attends to other national concerns.
