3 dead, one missing on Mt. Everest climb

by

Three mountaineers were reported dead Sunday, while one is still missing after climbing Mount Everest.

The victims are Roland Yearwood, a 50-year-old Alabama doctor, Slovakian climber Vladimir Strba, and Australian climber Francesco Enrico. The missing climber was identified as Ravi Kumar, an Indian national.

Murari Sharma, a spokesperson for Everest Parivar Expedition agency, said the details of Yearwood’s death is not yet identified, but reports showed he died near the mountain’s summit.

Strba and Enrico reportedly died from altitude sickness, according to The Himalayan Times.

Kumar went missing after he and his guide both fell sick. The guide reportedly went down the mountain to seek help but rescuers were not able to find Kumar.

The Tourism Department of Nepal had issued permits to 317 climbers as of early May, the Associated Press reported.

A total of 60 climbers were able to reach the top of the mountain.
