UAE retail outlets offers up to 75 percent discount on commodities this Ramadan season

The Ramadan season is not merely a time for spiritual recreation, but also a time for UAE locals and expatriates to boost their savings.

The UAE Ministry of Economy announced 600 hypermarkets, supermarkets and cooperative societies will offer up to 75 percent discounts during the Ramadan season.

Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of consumer protection at the Ministry, said the discount spree could generate Dh300 million in savings among residents.

“On certain essential commodities, like rice, flour and poultry for instance, the discounts will be as high as 50 to 75 per cent and some products will even be sold at cost price during the Holy Month,” Gulf News quoted Al Nuaimi as saying.

Al Nuaimi added there will be no price increase for over 4,500 essential commodities this year.
The Ministry will hold 450 scheduled and unannounced inspections on retail outlets to ensure that consumers are not exploited through higher prices.

“We logged 10,283 complaints in the first quarter of 2017, and these were mainly about high prices, automobiles and automobile parts, electronics and telephones, furniture, and credit cards,” Al Nuaimi said.
The Filipino Times previously reported that the Ramadan season is expected to begin on May 27.
