Govt authorities vow to continue war against drugs

The administration’s war on drugs has now arrested more than 74,650 alleged illegal drug users in the country.

Law enforcement agencies conducted 58,751 anti-drug operations from July 1, 2016 to May 17, 2017, according to the Philippine News Agency.

Reports from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Bureau of Customs (BoC) showed 2,999 drug suspects died in police operations.

The PNP-International Affairs Service also identified 158 police officers guilty of using illegal drugs, while 168 related cases remain under investigation.

PNP Deputy Director General Ramon Apolinario said the government’s anti-drug war “has brought remarkable result in different forms.”

“These numbers definitely bring us to a higher level of public awareness and concerns that cannot anymore be taken for granted. We accept that PNP and other law enforcement agencies have different methods in systems of reporting crime data.”

Apolinario said during the #RealNumbers forum held last May 2.
PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa said the authorities will utilize available resources to continue the campaign against drugs, which could eventually eradicate crime and illegal drugs in the country.
