NPA sustains 2 fatalities in Sibugay clash

The New People’s Army incurred two new casualties in a run-in with the government’s military troops in Zamboanga, Sibugay Saturday, said the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) in a statement.

According to Capt. Jo-An Petinglay, Westmincom’s spokesperson, the Joint Task Force Zampelan, commanded by Brig. Gen. Rolly Bautista, came into contact with roughly 30 communist rebels belonging to the “Feliciano Bravo”.

The soldiers then engaged the rebels in a firefight within Sitio Malagak, Diplahan, she added.

After the bout, government troops recovered the bodies of two dead rebels identified as Henry and Tibo, who both belonged to the Mindanao Regional Party Committee. Along with the bodies, the militia also came into possession two high caliber firearms.

Meanwhile, the 44th Infantry Battalion continue to block off possible withdrawal routes and halt the rebels’ surge.

“This is a positive result of the military’s continued engagements with the local populace and LGUs (local government units).” said Brigadier General Bautista, Joint Task Force Zampelan head and commander of the Army’s 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division.
