In the hunt: Senate to probe ‘pork barrel’ connivance

The battle against corruption is far from over. But several government officials have expressed openness to reinitiate a Senate probe on the P10 billion pork barrel scam, which involves allies of former president Benigno Aquino III.

Sen. Francis Escudero said he will support a Senate inquiry if the administration will seek for a new action to investigate a new group with the help of Janet Lim-Napoles, who was recently acquitted of illegal detention case.

“They should investigate whether an ally or a foe,” said during the Kapihan sa Senado forum.

Napoles recently offered to serve as a state witness to identify lawmakers she had transacted with, in line with Priority Development Assistance Fund scam.

Sen. Richard Gordon, head of the Senate blue ribbon committee, welcomes the idea of a new series of committee investigation on the pork barrel scam if new evidence is presented.

Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said Malacañang hopes that the new Senate inquiry could uncover truth and not “slanted” and “doctored” truth.

“The President wants the truth to finally come out and hold those involved, regardless of political color or party line, accountable,” The Philippine Star quoted Abella as saying. “The Filipino people deserves the truth in this case,” he added.
