New rule on sick leave for Dubai workers

A new rule by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) would help employers monitor employees who are faking illnesses when filing their sick leave.

According to a report by website lovindubai.com, sick leave for days prior to a worker’s visit to a hospital or clinic would not be approved in the emirate.

“Sick leave for any previous days will no longer be issued,” the report said.

According to lovindubai.com, the DHA announced the changes in rules.

The changes should mean “you can only gain sick leave on the day you visit the clinic.”

“Both public and private medical facilities are urged not to give out predated sick leave, and the electronic system which administers sick leave has been reprogrammed to deny predated sick-leave,” the online report said.

“This is part of a strategy to update regulations in the health sector,” it added.

The DHA is said to be upgrading its electronic system to be able to establish interconnections between all licensed medical facilities.

The body seeks to “raise the standards of both health professionals and facilities,” the report said.
