Hotelier calls for eased restrictions on OF hiring

A human resource director of an international 5-star hotel has called for restrictions in the recruitment of Filipinos from back home, saying the “very complicated” hiring procedure is a “shame” considering Pinoys “have talents.”

“I would advise the government to ease the process and the procedure, the travel requirements and documents,” Sayed Haggag, Marriott International market director for human resources told The Filipino Times.

“It is becoming very complicated for the people back there to leave the country, which is a shame because they are the best when it comes to the service and they have a talent,” he added.

“We take note of what Marriott Hotels has raised,” she said. “If they have some concerns, they may visit our office and I can show them that we are just abiding by requirements of the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment.”

Haggag said the UAE labor market “is increasing… taking positive directions.”

“The number of rooms is increasing and this creates more opportunities for people,” he said, explaining that most major chains are opening new brands to capture other market segments, aside from those who’d usually be billeted at five-star hotels.

“There are the new service apartments; a lot of service industries are being introduced in the market,” Haggag said.
