iPhone 8’s rumored camera tech offers hologram-effect capabilities

With Samsung already launching their flagship phone for the year in Galaxy S8, all eyes are shifted to Apple’s counter release of their solid plans against their strongest competitor.

Latest from the pool of rumors about the next iPhone indicates that the Cupertino-based company may just have an advantage card in the enhanced capability of their 3D sensing cameras.

Apparently, iPhone 8’s advanced camera system will have 3D capabilities that can enable augmented (AR), like the hologram effect in Pokemon Go, and virtual reality (VR) features in apps, while also offering better security.

This particular rumor came from sources inside Apple’s supply-chain in Asia which various tech media sites are reporting.

The front-facing camera is said to have a VCSEL (vertical-cavity-surface-emitting laser)-based DOE (diffractive optical elements) that will support both 3D-sensing and 3D-modeling capabilities.

And with its 3D-sensing powers, it would also be able to offer secure unlocks based on face recognition.

While Samsung S8 has a similar feature regarding face unlocking, its facial recognition software can be hacked with just an image.

This is the reason why it won’t let users use this security feature for Samsung Pay payments.
