Malacañang official slams portrayal of “Philippine President” in US TV series

Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella has denounced on Tuesday, March 7, the portrayal of the “Philippine President” in the American television series “Madam Secretary.”

The series “Madam Secretary” teased its latest episode with a fictional Philippine President getting punched in the face by the titular character, US Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord, after he attempted to touch her inappropriately.

The public was quick to point out the parallelism between the fictional president and Philippine leader Rodrigo Duterte, a self-confessed womanizer, reported Inquirer.net.

“I think they are confusing their images. I think they are projecting something that they really would like to say about their own situation. Really, I think they should use a fictional US President,” Abella, hinting at President Donald Trump, was quoted by the news portal as saying in a Palace briefing.
Asked if Malacañang finds the portrayal “insulting,” the Palace official said, “Well, they engage in something that they would like to…It’s their business, it’s their craft. You cannot deny them their craft—their taste perhaps.”
