Family of OFW slain in Jordan gets OWWA aid

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will offer financial assistance to the family of one of its members, who was killed in Jordan.

The remains of Felma Maramag were repatriated on Saturday. Her body was brought to her hometown in Peñablanca, Cagayan province the following day, reported ABS-CBN News.

OWWA reportedly said the family of the slain OFW is entitled to P200,000 in death benefit, P20,000 burial assistance, scholarship for the 15-year old daughter, and P15,000 livelihood assistance for the surviving spouse.
Maramag and her employer were killed last February 5, just a day after she celebrated her 36th birthday, the report said.

In its report to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Philippine embassy in Amman, Jordan said the victims were discovered by a police officer upon responding to a call from the Civil Defense Directorate of Jordan regarding a fire where Maramag was employed.

The police officer, the report added, brought the bodies to the hospital. Upon autopsy, it was revealed that the OFW died due to blunt force trauma to the head.

She also sustained a stab wound on the head, a broken skull, and bruises all over her body, said the news portal.

Her two-year contract in Jordan would have been completed by next month, reported ABS-CBN News, adding that she will be interred on February 28.
