Filipino organizations in Dubai hold annual elections

The first quarter of the year is usually the elections season for Filipino organizations in the UAE. This month has seen two major Filipino groups holding their annual general assemblies to either vote for their new leaders or present the newly appointed officers for the whole year.
The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Dubai Chapter held the relaunch of the group and oath-taking ceremonies of its newly appointed officers, at the Al Wasl Ballroom in Dusit Thani Hotel, on Friday, February 17.
PICPA Dubai was launched in the early 90’s but has become inactive in the past years.
“Because this is a start-up, interim kind of set up, the set of officers have been appointed rather than elected,” said Lyndon Magsino, PICPA Dubai president.
He explained that PICPA will formalize the election process in June this year. The structure is corporate, where the organization will have a board of directors and the management. “The management will be the ones who get elected while the board will oversee all activities from a corporate structure point of view,” Magsino said.
The group has already lined-up their activities for the whole year which includes technical training seminars, and social events.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates hosted the election of new officers of Filipino Club (FilClub) Organization on Feb. 15 2017 at the Rizal Hall, Philippine Consulate.
Some 90 active members and officers of 49 various organizations assembled to cast their votes. Engr. Maria Fe “Tata” Dayot and Ericsson Reyes, were chosen as Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively. The rest of the officers will be appointed by the newly elected leaders.
The FilClub Organization’s major projects for 2017 are Philippine Independence Day (PID) 2017 and the Bayanihan 2017.
