A fire broke out at a building on Airport Road in Abu Dhabi late on Saturday night.

The fire started from Rukn Al Sultan restaurant next to Akai building, reported Khaleej Times, adding that the Airport Road has been blocked from Delma street junction to Al Wahda Mall junction.

People were evacuated and no injuries were reported, the Ministry of Interior quoted Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Director General of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, as saying via Instagram.

The blaze started raging on the exterior of the building and residents were evacuated by the Civil Defense Forces, the report quoted sources as saying.

An eyewitness reportedly said he could see burning aluminum boards falling on cars parked under the building.

Social media users shared videos and photos of the blaze, and of firefighters working to extinguish it.
