Family of OFW beaten to death receives financial help

The family of the Filipino worker, who was allegedly beaten to death by her employers in Kuwait, has received financial assistance from Kuwait-based Filipino organizations.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III handed over the check to Amy Capulong Santiago’s husband and daughter on Thursday, reported GMA News.

The financial assistance came from the Philippine Association of Accredited Agencies to Kuwait (PHILAAK) and the Kuwait Association of Agencies, the report said.

PHILAAK President Amanda Araneta and various PHILAAK and KAA members along with the governing board of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) witnessed the handing over of the check.

Santiago reportedly died on the evening of January 25 at Farwaniya Hospital in Kuwait after she was supposedly beaten by her employer.

The OFW died the same day that Jakatia Pawa, an OFW convicted of killing her employer’s adult daughter in 2007, was executed, said the news portal.

Records of Abdullah Al Mubarak Police Directorate General of Criminal Evidence showed that Santiago had old and fresh bruises on her body at the time of her death, reported GMA News.

Though authorities have yet to disclose the cause of her death, both of her employers have been detained and are under investigation.
