320 Dubai number plates up for online auction

About 320 distinctive vehicle-licensing plates are up for grabs at the forthcoming 46th online auction hosted by Roads and Transport Authority’s Licensing Agency.

The list of numbers on offer includes plates bearing H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R and S codes. The offering also includes motorcycle plates code 2, reported Khaleej Times.

Registration for the auction will start on Sunday and the bidding will open at 8am on February 19, to continue for five days, the report said.
Sultan Al Marzooki, Director of Vehicles Licensing, RTA’s Licensing Agency, reportedly hailed the wide publicity of RTA’s auctions, be it open or online; and the positive competition between bidders.

“Such intense participation is indicative of the importance of these auctions in bringing happiness and added satisfaction to our customers,” he was quoted as saying.

Al Marzooki reportedly noted that online auctions are important to a large segment of the community as they find the liberty of selecting their fancied numbers in a hassle-free environment.

“This sort of auctions also contribute to the online service offering of the Vehicles Licensing Department under its annual plan aimed at improving the quality and standard of processing the public transaction,” he reportedly said.

The participation in the auction requires registration via one of several communication channels such as logging on to RTA’s website (www.rta.ae), or visiting any RTA’s Customer Happiness Centre in Dubai to seek assistance from staffs in completing the registration process, said the news portal.

The potential bidder is required to pay Dh5,000 as a security deposit and Dh120 as a participation fee before the start of bidding, through a credit card, or a cheque made to the RTA, reported Khaleej Times.

The security amounts will be refunded to bidders after the end of the auction. Conditions of the auction stipulate that the bidder must have a vehicle registered in Dubai or a driver licence issued from Dubai, the report said.
