Over 50,000 foreigners live in PH – Immigration report says

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Tuesday that 50,414 foreigners are currently living in the country based on the agency’s annual report.

The yearly process of requiring all foreigners to report to the agency and pay the annual report fee is mandated under Republic Act 562 or the Alien Registration Act of 1950, Inquirer wrote.

Almost half of the number had reported directly to the BI main office in Intramuros, Manila to register.

The others reported and paid their fees in the BI’s 49 field, satellite, extension offices all over the country, including the recently opened BI satellite office at the SM Aura in Taguig City.

The agency’s Annual Report 2017 began last January 3 and will last until March 3 this year, during which all registered aliens should report in person to the BI.

Fortunato Manahan, Jr., Acting Chief of the Alien Registration Division said that under the rules, each alien shall pay the government an annual report fee of P300 and legal research fee of P10.

A registered alien may no longer report in person if he had personally appeared in at least one of the Annual Reports in the past three years.
