Tens of thousands Sharjah residents set to witness fireworks

Tens of thousands of people are expected at Sharjah’s Al Majaz Waterfront to watch a 10-minute fireworks display on the New Year’s Eve.

“New Year’s Eve brings a wonderful opportunity to get together with loved ones, celebrate to the fullest and share one’s optimism and fresh resolve for the year ahead,” Mohammed Al Mazrouei, manager of the waterfront, quoted emirates24/7 as saying.

“We promise all visitors to Al Majaz Waterfront a memorable evening marked by good family-themed entertainment.”

The first-of- its-kind display by a tourist destination in Sharjah, the celebrations are aimed giving residents, tourists and visitors a truly memorable entry into 2017, the organizers said in a statement.

Sharjah’s skies will be lit up over a 10-minute fireworks display and create an outstanding portrait over a large space, which will enable spectators to enjoy it from a number of tourist destinations nearby, such as Al Noor Island, Al Montazah, Flag Island, and Khalid Lagoon’s Corniche.

The New Year’s celebrations will kick off with celebratory music filling the air. This will be accompanied by spectacular fireworks, which will take the shape of the countdown to the new year and the number 2017 illuminating the skies over the emirate.

The plethora of restaurants and cafes along the Waterfront will be offering visitors a variety of special food and beverage offerings, celebratory activities and family entertainment.

The Dh120 million Al Majaz Waterfront, Shurooq’s debut project, launched in March 2012. It is situated in Sharjah’s most vital and commercial district on the picturesque Khalid Lagoon. As one of the premier tourist and leisure destinations in Sharjah, it plays host to all major events in the emirate.
