Remains of Filipina in Iraq to be repatriated this week

MANILA: The body of Laida Hajan, a Filipino worker who died in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq two months ago, is finally coming home.

Chargé d’Affaires Elmer Cato was earlier quoted as saying by GMA News that they belatedly learned of Hajan’s death after her manpower agency in Erbil failed to immediately inform them about it.

Hajan “will soon be reunited with her loved ones in the Philippines,” Cato reportedly said on Facebook.

The official said it was actually Hajan’s employer who told the embassy of her death.

Hajan, a 36-year-old mother from Indanan, Sulu, was a victim of human trafficking who left Mindanao via a boat ride to Malaysia and somehow ended up in Iraq, Cato was quoted as saying by the news portal. The Filipina died in her sleep.
