Pinoy designer earns praises for Bond-inspired collection

HOLLYWOOD: Hollywood-based Filipino designer Alexis Monsanto has successfully staged his latest collection at the All Aboard Runway Show at the iconic Union Station in Los Angeles.

“With all the help of friends and supporters and benefactors who believed in my craft, I never thought I would be here tonight, that’s why I feel so emotional about it,” he was quoted as saying by ABS-CBN News. “Being Filipino, and to top this event tonight, to get the nods and the applause of the audience, it’s overwhelming and it’s a really nice feeling.”

Coming from a humble background in the Philippines, the designer reportedly fought to carve a space for himself in the highly competitive fashion industry in America.

Monsanto, who is turning 50 this year, merged his personal milestone with the golden anniversary of a cinematic icon: James Bond and the fabulously strong Bond women, the report said.

“This is special to me because I dedicate it to my dad who introduced me to James Bond movies. I grew up with it. And other than the action flick, I admired the beautiful ladies, from the villains to the leading ladies. They are strong, powerful, alluring, sexy, and provocative, and they embody an Alexis Monsanto client,” he reportedly said.

Monsanto presented 20 looks that paid tribute to the women of James Bond movies, reported ABS-CBN News, adding that the event featured designers from fashion business Inc., a non-profit organization that provides necessary training and resources to aspiring fashion entrepreneurs.
