Double decker buses in Manila?

Manila, Philippines – Metro Manila traffic decongestion measures are continuously being undertaken by the government. On Wednesday, October 12, 14 double-deck buses were launched by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in Quezon City.

DOTr thinks that the buses modeled after the ones England was well-known for would give commuters a convenient transport option.

The buses were launched under the point-to-point (P2P) program, traveling through the Trinoma-Makati (Glorietta 5) route. The P2P double-deck buses will be deployed around the clock from Monday to Sunday.

The buses will ferry passengers who stand to be affected by the implementation of the “no window hours” policy on private vehicles traveling along EDSA, C5, Mandaluyong, Alabang-Zapote, and Roxas Boulevard starting October 17.

“The P2P buses offer a convenient transportation option and designed to encourage private car owners to try public transportation,” the DOTr said in a statement, as quoted by InterAksyon.

The single journey fare is P55 and a round trip ticket is P80. Passengers can also buy one month unlimited ride promo for P1, 300. Operator Froehlich Tours offers a 50 percent discount (P25) for an unlimited ride during weekend mall hop operations.

The units include two VIP, seven semi-VIP and five persons with disability-friendly buses.

The VIP units have an upper floor equipped with 52 reclining sleeper seats with foot rests and reading lights. Each seat has a monitor loaded with games, movies and other entertainment apps.

The lower floor features a VIP cabin with a toilet, cooler, VIP sofas, conference table, and two 50-inch flat screen televisions that also function as a karaoke.

The buses are equipped with closed-circuit television cameras and have passed Euro 5 emission standards.
